It is exciting to see the enthusiasm and vision of the group of people involved in development of our Sports Council.  Different individuals are working on particular projects to do with funding, sponsorship, developing a sports academy and furthering sport education in the College programme.  We are meeting with a great deal of interest from our wider community.  On Open Day on Sunday 25 July 2010 the Sports Council plans to have a display showcasing the work that it has done to date and with information about the Sports Academy for the second half of 2010.

Last week members of the junior food classes participated in a competition to find the top burger dish to enter into the regional beef and lamb competition to be held at Otago Polytechnic on Friday 18 June.  I was fortunate to be invited to do the taste test along with other privileged teachers.  Students performed outstandingly well.  The winner was Katie Henry.  She will go with Miss Galbraith to prepare and present her dish.  We wish Katie well.  I know if I went to a restaurant and was presented with Katie’s dish I would willingly pay $15, it was so good. 

It is unfortunate that the weather has held up the completion of the resurfacing of the Netball courts.  The glue needs fine weather and sunshine to cure and is impeded by frosts, so the rain and the cold have not helped.  We are still on track for the top courts to be finished by the end of next week.
