One of our Taieri College traditions is Inter-Form Singing.  This week all of the form classes entered the heats and five or six competitors from Junior, Middle and Senior College were selected for the final on Friday afternoon.  There is a great deal of rivalry between the classes and in the process a lot of fun.  Those entries I saw were of a high standard and I believe that all students participate well and feel a sense of teamwork and the satisfaction that comes from pulling together.  May the best item win!

Many of you will have made appointments to meet with teachers of your young person.  We are gathering information on how useful parents and caregivers find both the content of the report and the structure of our report evenings.  We have made a survey form available to those families that came on Tuesday and Wednesday evening.  We welcome any feedback on this process.

Mrs Taylor-Jeffs took a team of four students into the OSTA Science quiz at Queens High School on Tuesday 29 June 2010.  There were four sections of questions; one on each of the four strands of Science - Biology, Physics, Chemistry and Planet Earth and Beyond.  There was also a practical workshop.  Our team performed very well and were commented upon as being very good at practical work.

Mr Cone and a group of our students are putting together an advertisement for Taieri College which is being produced by Dunedin Channel 9.  The production team will meet at the beginning of the College holidays and the advertisement should be ready for the start of Term Three.  I understand it will be shown during the news broadcast.  Please take the opportunity to see some of our young people promoting our community.

At the start of Term Three some of our talented musicians will be taking a tour around the Taieri Plains showcasing some of their performances.  There are a number of bands in the College and the sound they produce is wonderful.  The Music Department has put these items together on a CD and I hope to have this available on our telephone answering service in the near future.  They tell me that they keep on improving the tracks with subtle editing and incorporation of various elements, so the CD is constantly being updated.  I am sure I will get a copy that they are satisfied with very soon.   (I hope to get a final version soon).
