In the holidays a number of students and teachers were involved in sporting competitions.  A group of cyclists had particular success with Brad achieving a national gold medal and smashing the course record,  Julia won gold for the under 17 girls.

Fred and Sam were fortunate to be awarded a scholarship for overseas study.  Samantha is on a scholarship, sponsored by a Brazilian Agency, for six months to Brazil. She will be attending a prestigious girl’s private school in Marilia, Sao Paulo.  Fred was selected by Education Dunedin to participate in a Shanghai Sister City Youth Camp for two weeks. He will be with students from all over the world participating in many activities in Shanghai, including a visit to the World Expo.

I have been visiting classes in the junior school and found them busy at work.  In Mathematics they were studying rotation and reflection and in Science students were doing a practical assessment on chemical reactions.

This week I have been visiting Elmgrove, Silverstream and East Taieri School with some Year 7 students and two senior students.  We have been issuing invitations to our Open Day this Sunday.  At the same time a Music Roadshow has been going around the schools on the Taieri showcasing some of the wonderful talent of our students in music.  I have had feedback from the first schools visited and they found our students to be awesome!

 On Wednesday we christened the new Netball courts with a inter-primary school competition across a number of codes led by our senior students.  About 150 primary school students turned up and were welcome by our Kapa Haka group.  It was a fantastic Taieri day with the sun shiny brightly on our new blue courts.  A cold day but the students kept moving and seemed to thoroughly enjoy themselves.
