We have put out a survey to our students with regard to their use of our canteen and what they would like offered.  The results will be collated and we will try to be responsive to our customer base.  The canteen at Taieri College works on a philosophy of providing a service to the students in terms of healthy eating.  There is no intention to make a profit, we simply plan to cover our costs.  We are fortunate to have two staff members who work to the highest standards of cleanliness and care.  At times we roster on senior students to help in our rush hours.  I wish to guage interest in the provision of a small nutritious breakfast of milo and a split muffin for $1.  This would be available around 8.30am.  In this way we could cater for those students who come to college fasting.  This is not a good basis for learning.  Your comments would be appreciated. 

Several weeks ago I indicated that we were thinking of banning the fortified energy drinks which seem to be used by the students as a substitute for breakfast, morning tea and lunch.  All of the research from nutritional experts identify that this is not a sound basis for learning.  I would like to encourage families to think about this move and to communicate with me.
