JAMES HARGEST INTERCHANGE 10 AUGUST 2011
Taieri College hosted James Hargest School from Invercargill on a brilliant Mosgiel Day. Hargest had left home at 6.30am to be with us by 9.00am. We put on a good frost to start with but then the sun came out and it was game on.
Two games of Netball were played in the Indoor Training Centre. The first game was between our Year 9 A team and the Hargest Junior A team. Hargest was dominating throughout this game and put on a polished performance to come out the winners. In the Senior game between Taieri Senior A Team and Hargest Senior A, Taieri came out fighting and were up by 11 nil at the first quarter showing a great performance that carried them through to win the game.
The two Rugby games were also played at school and the Taieri under 14 team played some great open rugby to win the junior challenge convincingly. The first 15 also had a commanding win over its rivals. Taieri had great side line support for the games and the sausage sizzle proved popular as ever.
Basketball was played at the Memorial Park Stadium and the Senior Boys and Girls teams competed. The boy’s game was a closely fought game with Hargest coming out the eventual winners. The Hargest Girls team made up of mostly year 13 girls and boasting several Southland Rep players were comfortable winners against your young year 11 team, who I am sure will have learnt a lot for the experience.
Football was also at Memorial Park and the boy’s team had a loss to the Hargest boys, but are looking forward to the rematch at Tournament week in Balclutha at the end of the month. The Taieri girls also went down narrowly after being up 2 nil at half time.
The Hockey teams made the trip over the hill to the turf at Logan Park, and Taieri were resounding winners in the game.
The last contest cycling was held at North Taieri road racing circuit and Taieri College organised an Otago Secondary Schools Cycling Championships - teams from all over Otago competed in this race. Taieri College took out the Otago Schools Cycling Challenge Cup ahead of Columba College but in the tussle between Hargest and Taieri we lost the competition by one point on a count back.
James Hargest retained the Inter school Shield by the narrowest of margins ONE POINT!
The school put on a great afternoon tea and farewell to James Hargest with Taieri looking forward to travelling to Invercargill next year for another great day of sport.

Taieri vs. Kavanagh Year 7 & 8 Interchange 24 August 2011
On a lovely Mosgiel Day Kavanagh College joined us at Taieri College for the annual interchange. We had a variety of winter sports being played. All games were hotly contested and in the Netball the Taieri Teams showed their dominance by winning 5 of the 8 games on display. In the rugby both schools had a win with the Taieri year 7 winning and the year 8 team just losing. Saw some real talent out there on the rugby field and great support on the side-line. The football was dominated by Kavanagh with a few rep players in their mix who showed their class. In the Miniball our year 8 girls and year 7 boys put on great performances to win convincingly. Hockey was a new sport added to the mix and again Kavanagh showed some top skill to win this section.
Thanks to all the referees and coaches for making this event a fun day out for all.
