Taieri College has been well represented across several sporting codes during School Sport New Zealand’s annual Winter Tournament Week. In Nelson, our netballers showed great strength of character after a very close loss in their first game. They bounced back with some gutsy, hard-fought wins, eventually finishing 10th in the premier South Island competition. This is a stunning effort considering the wealth of talent in this division. As I write this article, our hockey team is in the play-off for third and fourth position in their competition, despite having picked up several injuries during the week. Our ice hockey players, combined with John McGlashan, were also thrilled to finish in fourth place. Meanwhile, our footballers and basketballers have also been playing with passion and have represented the college with pride. Today, our Under 15 boys’ rugby team and our girls’ rugby 10s teams begin their competitions. We wish them all the best too. Our sincere thanks go to the many coaches and managers who have given up significant amounts of their own time to invest in the lives of our students. Your efforts are greatly appreciated. We look forward to receiving the remaining results from the sports Taieri College has been participating in as they return home.
